“update-star” Standard-quality text prints looked great, and print speeds of 7 ppm are reasonable. Draft text appeared at nearly 10 wpm and was dark, crisp, and easy to read. Color prints on plain paper looked good, despite the slightly pale tones. Prints on photo paper, however, had no such problems, with rich colors and soft halftones. The MP640 takes 50 seconds for a 6x4in print. Photos are around 39p if you use Canon’s more expensive paper. Scanning and copying quality was equally impressive, with accurate color reproduction and plenty of detail. Canon’s excellent ScanGear software has a thumbnail display mode that recognizes multiple documents, rotates them to remove any shaky edges, and presents each as a separate object to scan. Advanced settings allow you to adjust color and sharpness before capturing the image.
