How does it work? The printhead ejects precision droplets as small as a picoliter, resulting in an impressive 9600 x 2400 dots per inch (dpi) color resolution and truly exceptional detail. Surprisingly efficient, the iP4500 also prints a 4 x 6-inch borderless photo in just around 21 seconds. And you can store both photo paper and plain paper in the two paper trays, so you’re always ready to print exactly what you need. The easy-to-use iP4500 offers many options so you can let your creativity run wild. With this system, you get four dye-based inks plus one black pigment-based ink, the ability to print double-sided documents to save paper, and the ability to print directly from your infrared camera mobile phone. “update-star” The Pixma iP4500 offers a fairly basic feature set. The only connection option is USB, although you can network the printer through a print server. It offers built-in duplexing for automatic two-sided printing, although the print driver gives you the option to do manual two-sided printing jobs. The iP4500 does not have memory card slots but does offer a PictBridge USB port for printing directly from PictBridge cameras and devices. The driver offers the same options as the iP3500 driver: namely, the ability to create print profiles for common print jobs; photo manipulation options; and paper and font options. The Pixma iP4500 is a bit pricey for a versatile single-function printer, so we had a limited number of models to compare. It held up well against the competition overall. It printed black text at a speed of 8.25 pages per minute. The Canon Pixma iP4500 is a good all-around printer. Text prints were pleasingly dark, though close inspection revealed jagged edges that could be cleaned up. Color graphics printing showed nice saturation and sharp detail in photographic elements, though color gradients seemed a bit washed out and the same issue arose with slightly jagged edges.
