The MFC-J430W is just above the entry level and is a bit more austere than some of its more expensive brothers. However, it still contains all the essential elements, including printing, copying, scanning and sending faxes. The top of this all-in-one device is only slightly curved and effectively hides its built-in ADF. The high-gloss center panel of the unit rotates to reveal a thin 20-sheet mechanism that is fed from the top surface of the machine upwards so that the paper is above the power stack. This facilitates the removal of scanned pages and facilitates their loading.
Like MFC-J3720 Driver, The Brother MFC-J430W control panel uses only a standard 51mm wide LCD screen instead of the more common double-wide screens on Brother multifunction printers. This does not affect much the operation of the machine since it does not include card readers or PictBridge; therefore, you do not need help to show thumbnails of photos. The controls consist of a small power button and a three-button keyboard so to the left of the screen, with a navigation diamond, a keyboard to mark faxes and start and stop buttons for copies and scans to the right. The front panel of the machine has no supports, but the paper cassette is separated from the front to contain up to 100 sheets of plain paper or an equivalent number of blank sheets. There is no separate tray for photos.
